Assessment

In this assessment I will be exploring the view that speaking a texting can be creative forms of language and what my view is on creative language.

Text is a creative form of language due to the language devices used and how it is mostly influenced by the younger generations. Text mostly consists of abbreviations; an abbreviation is a word or phrase that has been shortened, this is to save time, make it easier when typing and shorten the message. A negative aspect of abbreviations is that the person who is receiving the message is less likely to understand the message, unlike when the full word is written or spoken in its full. An example of this is the commonly used term “wuu2”, this is a great example an abbreviation because it shows us that; it saves time rather than having to type “what you up to” every time and that it shortens the message. “wuu2” consists of different features; it contains an omission which is the word “are” and it has been left out of the phrase to save time but it is also understandable to a certain group of people assuming the convocation is between teenagers or young adults. A numerical homophone has been used “2” instead of “to” which is using the sound of the number to substitute the word.

Spoken language is a creative form of language due to the…

There are many similarities between text and spoken language, one similarity is that text is highly influenced by spoken language, be it that spoken language is the root of text or that each new aspect of text has come from speaking in one way or another but text also influences speaking, this is shown when people say abbreviated phrases made up in text for instance; “LOL” which has been used in daily conversations to express a their view of something funny.

A difference between text and speaking is that texting is more informal than speaking in most cases, even in the older generations the formality of peoples writing is lowered; this is because of the relationships people have established and this allows them to feel comfortable whilst talking to another adult in this manner.

My view on text and spoken language being creative forms of language is that I strongly agree with that view with the most confidence. I find that text and spoken language is constantly advancing and that is us as people that are allowing this to happen due to the creativity of our minds and the imagination that we all have that thinks of all these new words and phrases that everyone accepts and embraces into our daily lives.
