The theme that I have decided to use is Deception, based on the fact that its relation to the books and films I have chosen and it is also stronger than my original theme regret. The books and films I have chosen to use are: The Great Gatsby (book and film); Hamlet; Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde; To Kill a Mockingbird;

Deception is a very dark, deep and overall emotional subject. It’s definition being ‘acts to propagate beliefs that are not true, or not the whole truth’

The Great Gatsby is a story by author F.Scott Fitzgerald, and is narrated by a character named Nick Caraway who appears to be the main, centre interest however is truly revolving around his rich neighbour Gatsby. Gatsby’s relationship with the story itself is strengthened as we are told of his deep love for for Nick Caraway’s cousin Daisy who he had a previous relationship with before the war and Daisy’s marriage. Throughout the book there are many features of deception. One of the main times this is shown from the first moment where daisy and gatsby are reunited and she leads him to believe that she loves him and him alone with no love for her current husband. We know this to be untrue late into the story towards the end and is confirmed in the last chapter where she doesn’t attend the funeral.
